Company Overview: TASS International conducts impact tests on the front of cars to assess pedestrian safety according to protocols such as the Euro NCAP test protocol.
Context: Starting in 2023, this Euro NCAP protocol mandates the use of a new test leg for these “pedestrian impact tests.” This new “aPLI impactor” is heavier than the previous impactor. The current test setup at TASS is not suitable for testing with the new, heavier impactor.
Previous Research: A previously conducted feasibility study recommended that by installing a new hydraulic cylinder with a greater range, the current test setup could be upgraded to accommodate testing with this heavier impactor.
Assignment: Investigate the feasibility of the recommendation from the initial study and develop a concrete plan for upgrading the existing test setup to make it suitable for testing with the aPLI impactor. Consider all technical requirements and limitations, and outline the costs associated with this upgrade.
